Westbury's Matt Ellis took 2nd place, behind fell running expert Matt Crane (of B&W) in Monday's Blazer. Crane clocked a time of 21.05 for the 6km course, finishing nearly a minute clear of Ellis who ran a course PB of 22.01. Felix McGrath showed no ill effects from his recent mountain running exertions to finish 3rd, just 30s adrift of Ellis. The women's race was won by Southville's Kerry Wray.
Chris O'Donovon, Terry Jewell-Davies, re-signed Steve Adams and Jullian Bailey-Gard Jnr all made the top 10. With over 30 Harriers taking part, the full results may be found here.

England star McGrath in action in Blaise
England Junior fell runner Felix McGrath was the star for Westbury Harriers at the first Blaise Blazer finishing 2nd in a great time of 22.19. Unfortunately for Felix, Bristol and West's Matt Crane running in the colours of the Bristol Orienteering Klub scorched round in a time of 20.53, which must be close to a course record. Fellow Orienteer Matt Franklin finished 3rd in 23.08, with the Harriers' John Terry 4th in 23.21.
In the ladies race, Grace Crane was the winner in 26.21. With over 30 Harriers out in force, the full resutlts are available here.
Well run everybody!

Westbury retain Blaise Blazer cup
Westbury Harriers retained the Blaise Blazer Team Challenge Cup in convincing style, holding off GWR, Southville and Gloucester AC. Thanks to a strong run from Matt Ellis to finish 2nd, John Terry 5th and Chris Palmer 7th, combined with Robyn Golding winning the ladies race, the Harriers ended up comfortable winners.

Harriers 1-2-3 at the July Blazer
A strong showing from Westbury Harriers in the 2nd of the summer's Blaise Blazer, as their runners secured all of the top 3 positions. The rapidly improving Felix McGrath won the race in a time of 23.01 from John Terry in 23.18 and Robin Nash 3rd in 23.38. A battle royal between the flat pace of John and Felix's strength on the hills as the lead swapped three times, before Felix pulled away on the final slog up to the castle. In the ladies race, Emma D'Alton was in a class of her own (J2) winning in a rapid time of 24.44.

Heavy rain fails to dampen spirits at the 1st Blazer
Despite being held exclusively in the summer months, the Blazer has a habit of bringing the weather with it. The first race of 2010 was no exception, as persistent drizzle from late afternoon, turned into heavy rain come the early evening! A fast paced race, fell-running specialist Matt Crane blitzed round the course in a time of 21.21 (which must be close to a course record!). Meanwhile, our own Matt Ellis lost his 100% off-road record, despite clocking a time of 22.47 (which would usually win most races). Felix McGrath ran a solid race for 3rd place in 23.09 - an improvement of some 20s from last season!
In the ladies race, Emma D'Alton fought a great battle with Robyn Golding, with Emma prevailing in a time of 25.29, with Robyn just behind in 25.31. 3rd place was Grace Crane who was a minute or so further back.
I am sure full results will be available here.
